Can I leave my home to someone in my Will?
Yes, you can leave your home in your will.
If you're a Co-Own customer and a relative or friend wants to live in the property, they must be able to comply with the terms of the equity sharing lease, which include living in the property, maintaining the property and paying the monthly rent. You must have spoken with a Solicitor in advance of your passing for advice on this, and get confirmation from our team that this will be possible.
For Co-Own for Over 55s customers, anyone inheriting the property must either fully buy out Co-Ownership’s share, or sell the property and use the proceeds to repay Co-Ownership based on the original equity shares.
All communication during these processes must be made through your nominated representative, to whom we are authorised to communicate information relating to your home.
Co-Ownership cannot provide legal or financial advice when it comes to planning for the future. We recommend that when you purchase your home with us, you update your Will via a Solicitor to reflect your new circumstances.
