Eligibility & application

Do I need a deposit to apply for Co-Ownership?

You don't always need a deposit for Co-Ownership.

Some mortgage providers may ask for a deposit depending on your share, and we recommend checking with lenders ahead of applying.

If you're applying for Co-Own, you can keep up to £13,000 in savings, and anything over this will need to go towards your deposit.

If you find it easy to save a deposit lump sum, consider whether you need Co-Ownership's help before applying, as you might be able to buy a home without us.

For those applying for Co-Own for Over 55s, you must fund at least 50% of your new home using savings, money from selling your home, or other assets. You can also use monetary gifts to make up your share. The maximum amount of savings you can keep is £26,000, anything above this must go towards your deposit.
