**Customer Stories**# Over 55s customer Denis: "We’re now in a home that suits our needs and reduces our costs."

How Denis and his family found peace of mind through Co‑Own for Over 55s.

Last winter was a turning point for us. We were living in a five‑bedroom house, and it had simply become too much to manage. With an interest‑only mortgage, rising electricity and gas bills, and the pressure of maintaining a large home, we knew we couldn’t put off making a decision any longer. That’s when we began looking seriously at Co‑Own for Over 55s.

It was a friend who first mentioned it to me. To be honest, I didn’t think Co‑Ownership was something someone my age could apply for - I always assumed it was aimed at younger people. But he reassured me that wasn’t the case. He explained that not only could we choose a home that suited us better, but that we might be able to hold back some of our savings. That was the moment I realised: *this could be exactly what we need*.

My first contact was with Sinead, and she couldn’t have been more helpful. She told me to get in touch with any problems and immediately put me at ease. That conversation got the ball rolling, and when I came in for a chat, the whole experience felt reassuring and straightforward.

Throughout the entire process, the team kept us informed at every stage. I had been quite apprehensive at the start, it felt like a big step, but everything went smoothly. Their guidance and communication made all the difference.

Now that we’ve moved in, we feel fantastic. Even though we’ve only been there a week, we’re already very content. The first thing I checked was the cost of electricity and gas. Based on what the previous occupants were paying, if things stay roughly the same, our energy bills should drop by around 75%.

That takes a huge amount of worry off our shoulders. These days, everyone is concerned about the cost of heating and powering a home, and we knew that continuing to heat a large five‑bedroom house just wasn’t sustainable. Even with rising prices, this move is dramatically cheaper, and far easier to manage.

We probably brought too much with us (as you do) but that’s part of the process. What matters most is that we’re now in a home that suits our needs, reduces our costs, and gives us real peace of mind.

Choosing Co‑Own for Over 55s has lifted a burden we’d been carrying for years. We’re happier, lighter, and looking forward to the future.
